After School Specials 1974-1976 Movie

After School Specials 1974-1976 Description: "Includes:

"The 18th Emergency (1974)
Pint-sized sixth-grader Mouse Fawley (Christian Juttner) is tired of being picked on by school bully Marv Hammerman (Jim Sage). Out of frustration, Mouse labels Hammerman as a "Neanderthal" — and alas, word of this insult quickly reaches our hero's tormentor. Advised that Hammerman is coming after him, Mouse spends the bulk of this ABC After School Special trying to run away from a dire fate — until he finally realizes that he can't run away from himself. Ultimately, Mouse learns a valuable (if somewhat painful) lesson in self-respect.

"Summer of the Swans (1974)
This third-season opener for the ABC After School Special series is based on Betsy Byars' Newbery award-winning book, The Summer of the Swans. Like most 14-year old girls, Sarah Godfrey (Heather Totten) is wrapped up with the usual problems of puberty: she's moody, self-conscious, has trouble making friends, and is averse to thinking about anyone's problems other than her own. But a sudden crisis involving her mentally challenged younger brother (Reed Diamond) shakes Sarah out of her self-involvement and helps her make great strides in emotional maturity.

"The Skating Rink (1975)
Teenaged farm boy Tucker "Tuck" Holland (Stewart Petersen) is shy and lonely, afraid that he will be ridiculed because he stutters. As he walks home from school — alone, as usual — Tuck notices a construction site, where a new skating rink is being built. For the next several weeks, he hangs around the site, eagerly anticipating the rink's opening. Sure enough, once the building has gone up and Tuck has strapped on his skates, he manages to overcome his shyness and reticence by becoming a champion on the ice — and absolutely no one cares that he still has trouble getting his words out! This ABC After School Special is based on a novel by Bob Rodgers, and features Ron Howard's father, Rance Howard, as Tuck's dad.

"Dear Lovey Hart: I Am Desperate (1976)
The award-winning ABC After School Special series closes its fourth season with one of its most memorable and compelling episodes. When teenager Carrie Wasserman (Susan Lawrence) agrees to write an advice column for her high-school newspaper, she regards the assignment as a joke. Accordingly, she uses her "Lovey Hart" alter ego to give flippant and sarcastic responses to those writing in. But it isn't all funny when some of Carrie's readers begin taking her advice seriously — and in one instance, the results could be disastrous! A potent lesson in handling responsibility (and accepting consequences if you don't), Dear Lovey Hart: I Am Desperate is based on a book by Bob Rodgers."
