Education of Sonny Carson Description: "Based on a best selling autobiographical book, “The Education of Sonny Carson” is a thoughtful and sensitive story about the early life of a ghetto kid. Sonny Carson (Rony Clayton, as a youngster Thomas Hicks) lives in the toughest section of Brooklyn where he gets into a life of petty crime. The film dramatizes his life during his formative years, beginning with his being honored as the best student in his junior high school class and ending as he emerges from a harrowing stint in prison for fast-talking a Western Union delivery boy out of $25 to buy flowers for a friend killed in a gang war. When Sonny is released from prison, he returns home to find that his best friend and best girl are hooked on drugs. He comes to the realization that his life won't change unless he rises above the violence, crime, and unrest of his urban environment."
