This was the first uncut performance of Berlioz's masterpiece at the Met. The sold-out performances revealed the magic of Les Troyens to audiences and critics alike. The latter wrote: 'Les Troyens...is a work of outstanding artistry, one of the monuments of operatic repertoire. The Met does it justice.' 'And the score of Les Troyens is...a particularly vivid example of dramatization through music.' This presentation of Les Troyens is subtitled in English and was taped during the October 8, 1983 performance at the Metropolitan Opera. Because of a power failure during the performance of October 8th, a small part of Act II is from an earlier performance; the only time a 'Live from the Met' opera has ever included material from more than one performance."
